Ruby is a sweet boy that came to us 11/7/2015 as a FeLv kitty through our veterinarian and the folks that found him thought he was a girl.  He came back positive on the SNAP test which is a clinical screening test for FeLv.  Many vets still recommend euthanasia based on this test without further available IFA  definitive testing, or even a retest.  IFA testing (known as the Hardy test after Dr. Hardy) actually identifies if the virus is truly in the blood.  Ruby's ear is also clipped which indicates he was part of a TNR program in his past.  We accepted and isolated Ruby to save him from euthanasia until further definitive testing could be completed which could indicate he may not be a FeLv threat to a kitty community.

Ruby came back negative on his first IFA (Hardy test) two months after he arrived and still tested positive by SNAP.  Ruby tested negative again by IFA over a year later and has been making friends with non FeLv kitties.

We will continue to test Ruby as new studies are done to understand this disease process and because we do not agree with killing those that are healthy.
